Capitalism, Covid-19, and Catastrophe.

Was this Virus created or was it an accident? Why suddenly in 2020 whole
world came to a grinding halt. Why was China blamed or was China part of
this Game, who all are partners of this disaster and who benefited from
this Pandemic. Why rich got richer and poor/middleclass are down to just
hand to mouth situation and have now from poor to poorer.

I am sure you have heard about the word Capitalism, yes right, it is the
economic system in which businesses are owned and run for profit by
individuals and not by the state. Few say 1% of the powerful business
houses run the whole system and make sure that their interests are safe,
and nothing affects them. These are the people who for their benefit
interests create a disruption in the system Globally, I am sure you
remember the Financial meltdown of 2007.

The COVID-19 pandemic has exposed multiple structural flaws of global
capitalism in every nook and corner of the world. These have been
reproduced through the intensification of inequalities and reinforced
through policy responses that have failed to protect the most vulnerable
from the health and socio-economic impacts of COVID-19. The COVID-19
pandemic has also revealed the materiality of human activity and complex
geographies of inequality whether it is America, Europe or any other
country and the worst has seen by developing countries like Africa,
South Asia etc. Working population, small businesses poor families have
been most affected. People have lost their jobs and businesses. But the
Richer are not seeing the brunt of this and they are working on making
more and more profits, like Pharmaceutical companies, E-Commerce giants
etc.

The COVID-19 crisis is exposing more and more flaws in our economic
structures, not least the increasing precarity of work, owing to the
rise of the gig economy and a decades-long deterioration of workers’
bargaining power. Telecommuting simply is not an option for most
workers, and although governments are extending some assistance to
workers with regular contracts, the self-employed may find themselves
left high and dry. The insurance companies are minting money like crazy
take all advantage of vulnerable people and putting them into debts of
lifetime.

We are seeing lot of Philanthropist coming forward and donating millions
and millions of their wealth for Food, Medicine, Research and so on, but
do you know why they are doing this. They are giving something to gain
back more of it from Governments and People. If a billion dollar is
invested in vaccine industry, in return they are asking for double after
it is deployed in the public. The Prices of everything is so high, it
has tripled. The Hand sanitiser or Mask which none of people used to
use, now have to buy it and the price is not less than 20-25$ where it
was just for a dollar or two and lying on the shelf. So, again who is
making money?

In New York Times “Neil Irwin” wrote in 2020, that Pfizer had reached a
$1.95 billion “advance purchase” agreement with the United States
government, ensuring it would be well compensated for eventually
delivering 100 million doses of vaccine. In other words, though the
government did not directly fund the drug development, it created the
groundwork in which the pharmaceutical company could spend research
dollars with abandon, knowing that success would be financially
rewarded. The Pandemic Is Showing Us How Capitalism Is Amazing, and
Inadequate. There was a research completed on Vaccine for Sars virus in
2018 which would have cured Coronavirus also, but the big pharma
companies denied to produce the vaccines because they thought it is not
worth profits and instead of developed drugs worth profits like Viagra.

Take any country only Billionaires are adding more zeros to their wealth
and exploring Space, and some are denying people right to live or have
their say on their Produce, such as Farmers. And Middle class and
working class is dying of hunger and uncertainty. Why are we not seeing
these richest tycoons dying and suffering from covid, why are only
Middle and Working section of population getting buried in thousands,
why are these people only loosing their loved ones. Who took their right
to Live and Breathe?

So, the Governments and Business Giants are hand in hand for this
Catastrophic Pandemic. They are just worried about their Wealth,
Position and Power. People are not important for them, they are just
mere workers who work for them and are surviving on their mercy.
Societies are into shambles; people are crying for mercy and help but no
one is coming forward and listening to them. Take on-going wars in
various countries, why is that again Capitalism, how will these big
ammunition and war building weapon companies survive if they can’t sell
their advanced destructive products. So, the countries are inducing
these wars and letting people die and perish, and the State Heads and
Business Tycoons are laughing and having good time because they are
making Billions by these atrocities

Rightly said by Mariana Mazzucato, the writer is a professor at
University College London, If there is an economic lesson from the past
12 months, it is this: Covid-19 is the moment to do capitalism
differently. The pandemic showed our economic system is not simply in
crisis, it is structurally flawed.

So, in the end, what I say is we need to think differently, businesses
need to work on structural way of making things which will help people
and society rather than just few business groups. 1% of Billionaires of
this world have half the amount of wealth globally where rest of the
Globe is poor, and struggling to survive. We need better Society,
Equality, Peace and Tranquillity. And all this in place we can be the
better world.

Question is, is that Possible?
